![]() What We’re Learning Through the SOAP Method of Bible Study For my personal journal, I write out my prayer. The kids have the option of either writing out their prayer or jotting down ideas they want to be praying about. In other words, we discuss how what we’ve learned applies to us and how we can put it into practice in our lives.įinally, we write out our prayer based on what we’ve learned. Answering the usual who, what, where, when, why, and how questions helps us figure out what God may be teaching us based on the context of the Scripture. Next, we make observations about the verse. We write that verse at the top of our journal pages. Then, we pick out a particular verse – or group of verses – that was especially meaningful to us. SOAP is an acronym to help you remember:įirst, we read a passage of Scripture. If you’ve never heard of the SOAP method, the premise is simple. Print them out each day and add them to your journal or notebook.If you’ve got younger kids, Jolanthe has some great printable SOAP journal pages, but we’ve just been using some composition books that we found on sale for $0.50 at Walmart. May the God of hope fill you will all joy and peace as you trust in Him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit Here is a SOAP method example for the verse Romans 15:13 NIV: If you are doing the SOAP method for the first time, it might help to have an actual example of what it looks like in action. Ask for grace and wisdom as you set out to make the necessary changes in your life as a result of what was revealed to you today! Whatever He revealed to you during your study time, ask Him for guidance and wisdom as you apply what you have learned.Ĭonfess any sins that were brought to light and ask for forgiveness. The final step of the SOAP method is to talk to God about what you have read. Write down the answers to these questions and any other questions the Holy Spirit puts on your heart! P – Prayer In my opinion, this step is the whole point of studying God’s word! We can read scripture all day long but if we don’t understand how to apply it to our life, what was the point?
